Learn or refine the art of throwing and/or handbuilding a teapot renowned potter, WPA Potter-in-Residence, and WPA Life Member, Jenny Shearer!
In this hands-on class, Jenny will guide you through creating a functional teapot that pours beautifully, complete with a handle, spout, and lid. She’ll share the history of teapot making while demonstrating her process by throwing one or two teapots to showcase key techniques, offering personalized guidance as you craft your own. Whether you’re a thrower or a handbuilder, this class is an opportunity to dive into this timeless pottery tradition.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with at least one teapot of your own creation.
To get the most out of this class, you need be able to centre and throw up to 1kg of clay or be an intermediate handbuilder with stable joining skills. Jenny’s coaching style is focused on support and hands-on assistance, ensuring that everyone’s teapot is crafted to perfection.
MATERIALS
Bring your favourite clay, tools, and callipers if you have them.
Jenny/class will break for lunch, although you are welcome to continue to work through this time if you prefer.
