You will gain an understanding of the design and construction methods necessary for you to make casseroles and tagines.
This course is for experienced potters who are able to centre and work unassisted with at least 1.5 – 2.0 kg of clay. There will be no time available to assist you to learn these necessary skills.

Making the lida to perfectly fit the bases in order to maximise heat and steam during the cooking process.
Making throwing and attaching knobs and handles
Trimming bases and assembling final work.s.
Participants to provide
- Clay – Vivian recommends “Brick red earthenware clay” to maximise flavour. This is not stocked by WPA but is available from Gordon Harris and other clay suppliers.
- Your preferred throwing and trimming tools
- You will also need suitably sized bats to match your projects.
Number of participants
The course is limited to a maximum of 6 participants and needs a minimum of 4 participants to go-ahead.

The course will be over four sessions held in the upstairs room.

The not so small print
There can be no refunds after you have been registered on the course and paid the fee. Should you find that you can’t make the course you are allowed to find a suitably experienced substitute.
If you miss a session the tutors are not expected to provide any catch-up time beyond that which can be given in the scheduled times without impacting other participants.
Before confirming your registration the tutors may contact you to make sure that you understand the prerequisite skills required. If the courses is not advertised as suitable for beginners there will be no time to assist participants without the skill to work with the amount of clay specified.
The fee for the course does not include firing or glazing that can be done through the normal club process.
